My first trip to Sicily

I finally made it to Sicily! Charlie and I had been talking about going for ages, and this summer we decided to just go for it. Honestly? It was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. The island is so beautiful, the people are some of the warmest I’ve met, and don’t even get me started on the beaches. They’re honestly breathtaking.

The best part? Sicily has to be one of the most inexpensive yet friendliest places I’ve visited. It feels like you get so much without having to spend a fortune, which makes it even better.

Exploring Palermo

We based ourselves in Palermo for a good chunk of the trip and wow, the history there is everywhere. Walking through the streets felt like stepping into a storybook — arches, cathedrals, and buildings that look like they’ve been frozen in time.

I couldn’t stop staring at the details on the doors and churches, they were just incredible. And every corner seemed to open up into a new piazza full of life.

The Beaches

Now let’s talk about the beaches — because honestly, they deserve their own moment. The water is that perfect turquoise blue you see on postcards, and it actually looks like that in real life. We found little coves tucked away between cliffs, and larger bays with boats dotted across the horizon.

We spent so much time just lying in the sun, swimming, and forgetting about everything else. It’s one of those places that makes you feel completely relaxed and so far away from normal life.

Food, Food, Food

If you know me, you know food is always a big part of my travels — and Sicily did not disappoint. From arancini (which I could honestly eat every day) to fresh seafood and the best pasta, every meal felt like a treat. Add a glass of local wine and you’re pretty much in heaven.

Sicily was everything I hoped for and more. The people were lovely, the weather was perfect, and the island has this mix of history, culture, and natural beauty that makes you want to stay forever. Charlie and I both came back saying the same thing — we’d go back in a heartbeat.

So if you’re thinking about planning a trip somewhere that’s beautiful, affordable, and full of charm, Sicily should definitely be on your list.
